Indulging in chocolate hampers may sound like the perfect way to beat the January blues and one expert has claimed sweet treats are a good way to improve morale.
Editor of Healthy Magazine Jane Druker claimed it is ok to enjoy snacking on chocolate, as it contains ingredients that act as a mood booster.
She explained how dark chocolate in particular is "full of flavanols", which are antioxidants found in plentiful supply in cocoa.
"These increase blood flow to the brain and may actually help you see more clearly," Ms Druker commented.
In a recent study by Italian researchers, it was suggested dark chocolate can help control diabetes and blood pressure.
The BBC reported how a team at the University of L'Aquila found eating 100g of the food each day for 15 days lowered blood pressure.
Meanwhile, the body's ability to metabolise sugar was improved, which is something diabetics struggle with.
