Consumers 'should order Christmas hampers early'
Published on 02/12/2011

Those planning on buying Christmas hampers for loved ones this year should purchase them as soon as possible.

According to research by Consumer Focus, one in five people will leave their online shopping until the week running up to December 25th, while 12 per cent will not finish sending cards until the 19th.

Robert Hammond, director of postal policy at the body, said those who leave all of their shopping until a few days before Christmas are playing a risky game.

"A lot of people seem to be planning to leave things to the last minute and they may be in for a nasty shock if the weather turns for the worst like it did last year," he stated.

Mr Hammond went on to add that Christmas can be stressful enough without worrying whether gifts - which could include hampers - arrive at their destination in time.

A survey by eBay revealed that 43 per cent of people will have all of their shopping done within six hours.
