Consumers more savvy when buying Christmas hampers?
Published on 27/10/2011

Consumers are not planning to cut back spending on Christmas hampers and other gifts this year, however, they are much more cautious when it comes to parting with their money than in previous years.

That is the opinion of Rob Feldman, chief executive officer of BrandAlley UK, who made the claim after research from the firm showed that 63 per cent of people expect to spend more than they did last year.

The survey also found that consumers are keen to purchase goods online and this has been a trend since the economic downturn began, with just one in 25 stating they have cut expenditure with regards to e-commerce.

"Consumers are not necessarily spending less but are definitely becoming more savvy in their spending," Mr Feldman noted.

According to a recent study by Kanter Media, 21 per cent of shoppers expect to have purchased all of their Christmas hampers and other gifts by the end of October.
