Christmas hampers may be in demand as Brits refuse to compromise
Published on 19/10/2011

Luxury Christmas hampers look set to remain in demand this year, as many Britons are not planning to compromise during the festive season.

Research by HSBC revealed nearly half of respondents will spend as much as they did last year, while a further 20 per cent intend to increase the amount of money that goes on presents.

People across the UK will spend an average of £183 of entertainment, food and drink, while the budget for Christmas hampers may come from the £378 that will typically be spent on gifts for immediate family.

Ashtar Antoine, head of current account management at the bank, highlighted the importance of the season to consumers, stating: "Our research shows that despite the recent economic gloom, many households still plan to spend money celebrating this special time of the year."

Last week, a MoneySupermarket.com survey showed many Brits expect money to be tighter this year than in the past, with the site suggesting putting a little aside in the weeks leading up to December is a good way of dealing with the costs.
