Chilean wine is now the most popular in the UK and those planning to buy Christmas hampers for loved ones this year may want to purchase one containing wine from the country.
Research by Nielsen revealed that the UK is the number one export market for the nation's wine, with the value of exports increasing by 13 per cent in the year to August 2011.
European director of Wines of Chile Michael Cox said that producers and importers are beginning to see the fruits of their labour.
"Despite rising prices and unhelpful currency issues, value for money remains Chile's watchword and this underpins its success," he added.
Alternatively, consumers could invest in Christmas hampers containing English wine after a report from the BBC revealed that its reputation is improving all the time.
Growers are optimistic that the Indian summer enjoyed in the UK this year will produce a good grape harvest that can be used to produce a strong vintage.
