Christmas hampers helped bring joy to local residents in Sherburn after students from the local high school dedicated their time to deliver the gifts.

The Goole Courier reports how 40 people were presented with the food baskets, which were decorated in festive paper and contained seasonal produce.

Each of the residents that received one of the hampers were said to be delighted, as they were unaware they had been nominated to be given one of the prizes.

Head of design and technology at the school John Bagshaw praised the students for their hard work organising and delivering the gift baskets.

They also raised £170, which is to be split and donated to care homes and drop-in centres in the local area.

In a similar show of festive cheer, Christmas hampers were distributed among individuals deemed good neighbours by their fellow North Wales Housing Association tenants, the North Wales Weekly News recently reported.
