Vulnerable families are set to benefit from a Christmas Hamper scheme that has been organised by volunteers at the Antioch Centre in Wales.

The Llanelli Star reports how preparations are already underway to create gift baskets for those who are unlikely to receive any festive cheer this year.

A special Christmas dinner will be held on December 22nd, at which the hampers will be distributed and guests will be able to enjoy a two-course meal.

There will also be entertainment and a visit from Santa Claus, who is expected to hand out small toys to children attending the event.

Volunteer Joanne Yeo said: "I am looking for loved teddies in excellent condition to ensure each child has a friend waiting on their seat."

It was claimed donations are more important than ever this year, as an increasing number of families are struggling financially and may be unable to provide the kind of Christmas young children expect.
