Charity receives cash boost thanks to hamper raffle
Published on 13/02/2012

A raffle featuring luxury gifts such as wine hampers and meal vouchers has helped the owners of a restaurant in Morriston to raise money for charity.

The South Wales Evening Post reports how Tina Wood and Tony Sanders were keen to collect donations for Swansea's Ty Olwen hospice.

Throughout December, the pair organised a series of raffles, auctions and fundraising events at their restaurant Sherwoods.

It is understood the duo came up with the initiative as a way of saying thank you to the hospice, which had a special connection for both of them.

"Tina and I wanted to thank Ty Olwen as both our mothers were looked after there last year," Mr Sanders explained.

The pair raised £535, which will help the hospice to care for patients with cancer and other life limiting diseases.

In 1992, the Duchess of Kent opened Ty Olwen, which is a unit with 20 beds and offers a day-care centre and facilities for outpatients, counselling support and teaching.
