A visit to a horse racing celebration could be in store for champagne hamper lovers.
Attendees at this year's Northumberland Plate Festival are expected to drink their way through 10,000 bottles of bubbly, Journal Live reports.
The spectacle is Newcastle Racecourse's biggest occasion of the year and it takes place at Gosforth Park.
As well as the champagne, it is predicted the 50,000 visitors will sink 20,000 bottles of wine and 1,150 kegs of beer.
The get-together has opened today (June 24th) and will run for the next three days.
Executive director of the event Mark Spincer said: "A huge amount of work goes into making sure that the John Smith's Northumberland Plate Festival is a success."
He added preparations for 2011's meeting will get underway as soon as this year's festivities come to a close.
It was revealed earlier in the week that the government's hospitality wine cellar contains around 1,800 bottles of champagne and the entire contents values at a collective £864,000.
