Champagne hamper fans 'should pour tipple down the side of glass'
Published on 29/12/2010

Individuals who are planning to celebrate the new year with a glass of Champagne should make sure they pour the tipple down the side of a tall glass.

According to an article in the Montreal Gazette, this preserves the flavour and the bubbles in the beverage, which is often found in luxury gift hampers.

Sommelier Sean Moher of Groovy Grapes told the news provider this is the way he advises customers to serve Champagne.

"We probably don't know the science behind it as much, but all those things seem like the basics. It's all about keeping the bubbles. If you pour it in gently, more of it [carbon dioxide] is going to stay in the glass," he added.

And Mr Moher also warned people not to open a bottle of bubbly until they are ready to drink it, as this will keep the beverage fresh.

Elsewhere, in a recent interview with the Metro, head of marketing at Laurent-Perrier UK Daniel Brennan suggested sales of Champagne have picked up, after they dropped during the recession.
