Hampers may be the perfect gift for men who are looking to celebrate their partners on this year's International Women's Day (IWD). The annual event has been observed since the early 1900s, with the day first introduced in the US in 1909. Leader of the Women's Office for the Social Democratic Party in Germany Clara Zetkin put forward the idea of IWD as a way of females having a regular date on which to put forward their demands. Since 2000, IWD has become a global celebration, with March 8th recognised as an official holiday in dozens of countries including Afghanistan, Cambodia, China, Russia, Uganda, Georgia, Vietnam, Mongolia, Ukraine and Zambia. On the day, men traditionally honour their wives, mothers, girlfriends, sisters, friends and colleagues by sending them small gifts and flowers. A variety of events are scheduled each year, with nations across the globe recognising inspirational women and their achievements.
