Following the success of the Olympic opening ceremony, more than a million spectators lined the streets of London on Saturday (July 28th), to cheer on cyclist Mark Cavendish.
The Brit was watched by eager fans who hoped to see the athlete bring home a medal for the country.
Armed with picnic hampers and deckchairs, many individuals had hoped to be celebrating and toasting to Cavendish's success at an event that attracted the largest live audience for a sporting contest.
However, the fans may have been left disappointed, as the cyclist went home empty handed, after placing in 29th position and finishing a little over a minute after the winner.
Speaking to the Daily Telegraph, spectator Richard Hibbins said: "It was a great day. It was well organised and I was proud to be British."
Cavendish's girlfriend Peta Todd looked on with the couple's child Delilah Grace and tweeted messages of encouragement from the stands.
