Brits 'could enjoy summer' with a wine hamper
Published on 09/07/2010

A wine hamper could make a summer day perfect, even if the weather turns sour and the barbecue won't light, it has been said.

Telegraph food and drink expert Jonathon Ray suggested that the 13 per cent volume 2009 Blind River Sauvignon Blanc from New Zealand could be one choice to ensure the evenings are topped off with a crisp, tropical taste.

However, red wine, such as the Spanish 2008 Torres Sangre de Toro will be a perfect addition to a hearty burger or steak from the barbecue and could be included in hampers for its spicy, soft flavour.

"Even the chilliest of summer evenings or the most scorched-yet-raw of barbecue offerings seem better with the right wine," Mr Ray advised.

The International Wine Challenge in London recently saw Camel Valley Wines in Cornwall pick up prizes for its 2008 Pinot Noir Rose Brut, which could make an ideal addition to a gift hamper for viticulture enthusiasts.
