Birthday hampers on the way to Britain's oldest man?
Published on 04/11/2011

Britain's oldest man could receive birthday hampers today (November 4th) after turning 109.

Reg Dean, from Wirksworth in Derbyshire, will celebrate the milestone with friends and family.

He has already thrown a party with the Dalesman Male Voice Choir - a group that he formed and still leads today.

Mr Dean has also been nominated to carry the Olympic torch before the 2012 Olympics in London.

Speaking to the Derbyshire Times, he said he is not surprised to have made it to 109 years of age, as he is in good health and believes there is a guardian angel watching over him.

"I don't feel 109, I feel sometimes I may be 110 or 111 and other times 108," Mr Dean stated.

He is not the oldest person in Britain, however.

That title belongs to Violet Jane Wood from Whitstable, who could have received birthday hampers on September 2nd after turning 111.
