Big Picnic 'a great success'
Published on 27/09/2012

As many as 400 visitors packed picnic hampers and took part in an annual Big Picnic in Steyning.

The Shoreham Herald reports how the Wiston Estate hosted a series of activities that entertained young and old alike.

There were bushcraft skills, a Handsome Hounds dog show, friendship bracelet workshops, picnic collage and spoon making.

In addition, individuals were invited to take part in welly throwing, water balloon races and a fact trail and chalk grassland wander.

A samba workshop was also organised by Horsham District Council, which featured cow bells, drums and whistles.

Bryony Webb, project manager for the Steyning Downland Scheme, which hosted the event, said: "We were delighted with the relaxed, friendly atmosphere, and it is wonderful to see people enjoying the outdoors together."

She added that the Big Picnic is a "real community event", with dozens of people helping to make it a success by volunteering their time and effort.
