Award-winning wine could make good addition to gift hampers
Published on 18/05/2010

During a recent global competition, a wine from Wales was bestowed an accolade.

A white version of the beverage, which is produced by the family-run Ancre Hill Estates vineyard, picked up a bronze medal in the International Wine and Spirit Competition, the BBC reports.

The tipple, which could make the ideal addition to a gift hamper, is based on grapes grown in soil that is of a similar quality to that found in Chablis.

According to competition judges, the wine is "extraordinary" given that its makers only set up production five years ago.

Commenting on his love of winemaking, Richard Morris said: "I've always had a passion for wine and when we discovered the quality of the site near our home we followed our dream to plant a vineyard."

His business is based on the outskirts of Monmouth in the Wye Valley - which is located in south-east Wales near the border with England.
