Award-winning cheese 'could be perfect hamper addition'
Published on 06/04/2010

Jalapeno and peppadew cheddar could be a welcome addition to a gift hamper as it has been named as Best of Class at this year's World Championship Cheese Contest.

The variety, made by New York business Yancey's Fancy, won the prize in Wisconsin, the Daily News reports.

Company executive vice president Mike Wimble was excited about the victory and said that he believed the accolade could mean bigger things for the business.

He explained: "We're tiny on a national scale … we will get recognition this way."

The company also won two fourth places for a smoked gouda and bacon effort and a roasted garlic cheddar entry, plus a fifth place for a type called horseradish cheddar.

It was revealed last week that food sculptor Prudence Staite has created a giant Easter egg made entirely of cheese - which has been unveiled in London's Battersea Park - to kick-start Cathedral City's Chegg campaign.
