Advice on picnics given to hamper fans
Published on 05/08/2010

Packing provisions correctly when going on a picnic is an important job for luxury hamper fans, one writer has suggested.

In an article for the Toronto Sun, Rita Demontis noted heavier food items should be packed at the bottom of the hamper to stop delicate products from getting squashed.

"Put cold foods in waterproof containers or wrap in plastic wrap or aluminium foil and completely immerse in the ice inside the cooler," she added.

Ms Demontis explained ice should never be put directly on top of unwrapped food and gel packs should be placed between produce to keep it cool.

She advised individuals to use coolers if they are transporting groceries in hot weather, as these will help to keep rep provisions insulated and ensure foodstuffs stay fresh for longer.

Sportswoman and television personality Sharron Davies recently implied picnics are an ideal time to consume "good balanced food".

Davies noted luxury grub can be eaten in moderation and people should not get worked up about victuals.
